In the Taurean the troubles are likely to arise from throat infections, bronchitis, goiter, over-weight conditions caused by a tendency to retain fluid, diseases involving the neck, asthma and sinusitis. He needs to avoid obesity, and to make sure that he gets plenty of active exercise. The kidneys are sometimes a weak spot also and herbal teas may be found to be helpful here. There is also a tendency to build up tensions at the back of the neck (Atlas and Axis bones) and to retain mucus which causes catarrh and often makes Taureans heavy and rather slow. They have a strong constitution, however, and many remain superbly healthy.
They benefit from a natural diet and in any case need to moderate their love of rich food and good wine. Herbal medicine will usually prove to be effective for them and also the Bach flower remedies.
The tissue salt which they find difficult to assimilate and which they need to eliminate fluids is Sulphate of Soda (Nat. Sulph,). This is indicated when they are not feeling up to par or when they are feeling strained or worried.
For exercise they will enjoy walking, probably golf, swimming and dancing. They are usually excellent at both of the latter and these are extremely valuable exercises for them.
For relaxation the pursuit of their artistic hobbies (provided that this is not their everyday job) music, gardening, fishing, and in general, keeping in touch with nature is the way the Taurean recharges his batteries.
These people enjoy massage (this should be a stimulating one with the idea of breaking down the fatty tissue) and particularly aromatherapy.
As regards homeopathic remedies, Taureans are often the 'Pulsatilla' type and among the other remedies they are likely to find useful are Calendula Mother tincture for hay fever and Arnica for shock.
Among the herbs which may be useful to them are:
Bilberry which helps to counteract water retention.
Blackcurrant for throat infections and catarrh and also for the prevention and treatment of
goiter.
Chicory is a valuable help to get rid of excess mucus.
Elderberry is useful for all dropsical conditions.
Horseradish and Hyssop are both valuable for catarrh, bronchitis and reducing mucus.
Sage is soothing for throat ulcers and may be used as a gargle.
Sunflower tea is recommended for bronchitis, laryngitis, coughs and colds.
They should take Kelp regularly as the iodine helps to prevent goiter. They should also grow Fenugreek for nutrition and as a help to control sore throats.
The Bach remedy most applicable to them is Vervain, they are likely to react well to all the Bach remedies . Their attitude to illness tends to be pessimistic, and this together with their stubbornness in obeying orders (if they think they know better) may mean that their illnesses tend to be prolonged. They belong to the class of people who will weather a great deal of trouble and remain patient and stable, but depression may overtake them very quickly if they become ill themselves, A negative attitude to health is common, and they are more inclined to put up with ill health than to seek actively for a remedy.
Psychologically, has a great need to be 'earthed'— to feel solid ground under his feet. This makes him obstinate in their opinions and they find it difficult to accept that other people have a right to think differently. Their possessiveness also tends to deny that their loved ones are people in their own right rather than their possessions. Both of these attitudes can make it particularly difficult where their own children are concerned as the generation gap can be very wide indeed if they are not prepared to update their opinions. Normally, however, Taureans enjoy good relationships with their children and love their homes.
To become psychologically whole and to progress spiritually the Taurean needs to recognize these two major defects and to become more tolerant and generous.
