SHODASAVARGAS: There are 16 Vargas – degree divisional charts., including Rasi Chakra – the main chart, and the Navansha – nine divisional degrees (units) in a house derived from main house of Rasi Chakra. I list below the divisional charts and areas of life they represent, according to Parasara’s Hora Sasthra. (It is too complicated to explain its formulations here):
1. Rasi Chakra : Individual chart;
2. Hora : Wealth;
3. Drekkana: happiness through siblings – effort:
4. Chathurthamsa: good luck and fortune;
5. Septamsa: Children;
6. Navansa: married life:
7. Dasamsa: career and status;
8. Dwadasamsa: parents, heredity;
9. Shodasamsa: happiness through conveyances and property;
10. Vimsamsa: Spiritual life;
11. Chathurvimsamsa: academic achievements;
12. Bhamsa: Strength and weakness;
13. Trimsamsa: good or bad luck;
14. Khavedamsa: auspicious and inauspicious effects;
15. Akshavedamsa: general indications on progress etc:
16. Shastiamsa: general indications.
Each of these charts represents a different phase of life. These helps to uncover many subtleties, which is not be available readily from the Rasi Chakra. An astrologer must train to study these charts, added to the main chart, and learn to estimate before finding answer to the specific needs in a main chart. This is not difficult these days with computer charting methods largly available. But it is not advisable to predict without studying these sub-charts. -
