Tulsi vivah is a grand festivity that has a lot of significance for Hindus. There is an interesting legend behind the celebration of Tulsi vivah festival. Tulsi is considered to be an incarnation of Maha Lakshmi, who was born as Vrinda in her previous birth. Tulsi was married to a demon king Jalandhar. She offered prayers to Lord Vishnu to protect her husband from being harmed by any God. Several Gods approached Lord Vishnu and requested him to take the form of Jalandhar and live with Tulasi, without letting her know about the truth. To know the complete story, read on.
Lord Vishnu agreed to the request and did as told by other Gods. After the death of Vrinda's husband, when truth was known to her, she cursed Lord Vishnu and converted him into a stone, i.e. Shaligram and after that, she collapsed. From her body, came out a tulsi plant. It is due to this reason that Vishnu puja is regarded incomplete without the presence of Tulsi leaves. Since then, every year Tulsi is married to Lord Vishnu and the event is known as Tulasi Shaligram Vivah. It is said that the person who performs the custom of giving away Tulsi to Lord Vishnu, considering her to be his own daughter, is considered to earn the credit of performing kanyadan.
Tulsi vivah is conducted on the next day after Kartiki Akadashi. As a part of festivity celebration, tulsivrindavan is adorned like a bride. Along with tulsi, the plants of amla, sugarcane and tamarind are planted. Special feast is prepared consisting of delicious vegetarian dishes. A full meal consisting of puri, rice, sweet potato kheer, moongachi gathi, red pumpkin vegetable is offered to Tulsi Vrindavan in the afternoon time. The ceremony of wedding takes place during evening. Several dishes made from poha are served to Lord Vishnu. Prasad is then distributed amongst all. This ceremonial day marks the beginning of the auspicious marriage season for Hindus.
Tulsi Vivah is considered the beginning of the wedding season in India in the month of Kartik, which occurs in October/November every year. Tulsi vivah is conducted on the day after Kartik Ekadashi (the eleventh bright day of the new moon, Amavasya). According to Hindu mythology, Tulsi is ceremonially married to Lord Vishnu on this day. The festival continues for five days and concludes on the full moon day.
The festival is based on the legend of the marriage (or vivah) of the holy basil plant (or Tulsi) with Lord Vishnu. The tulsi plant is considered holy by many hindus and traditional hindu homes used to have tulsi plant growing in the courtyard. Offerings were made to the tulsi plant every morning and evening during the daily prayers. But how can there be a festival devoted to the marriage of a plant and a God? We have to turn to legend and mythology for an explanation.

That is why Vishnu pooja is considered incomplete without tulsi leaves.. Since then, every year Tulsi is married to Lord Vishnu and the event is known as Tulsi Shaligram Vivah. Another legend says that Tulsi came out of the ocean during Amrita manthan as a younger sister of Lakshmi. She was devoted to Lord Vishnu and wanted to marry him but Lakshmi, who was already married to him, did not like the idea and cursed her to become a plant. Thus the tulsi plant was born. But the all merciful Lord Vishnu took pity and fulfilling her wish declared that when he will be in the form of a saligram she will remain close to him in the form of a tulsi leaf.

It seems so, as Mars in horoscopes has been found channeling the crucial energy that prompts all actions of consequence –good or bad. It is perhaps the spark in your eyes and the thunder and lightning in the sky. Mars and Wars
Mars is the commander-in-chief in the planetary cabinet. Phaldeepika Shloka 9: Mars has lean waist. His hair is curly and bright. There is cruelty (fierceness) in his look. He has a cruel nature and is bilious. He is dressed in red clothes and his body has a red hue. He is wrathful but exceedingly generous. He looks youthful and has jurisdiction over marrow in the body.
Mars in Mundane: Armed forces-army, naval and air commands, police engineers, criminals, firefighters and armaments. It is the planet of wars and strife and represents violence in every form including fires, explosions and armed conflicts.

Japanese make the best for themselves and do not hesitate to acquire the best from abroad if it is worth it.
Kyoto, the ancient most city of Japan and its capital before Tokyo is the center of learning with the oldest university which has many Nobel laureates as its alumni. It has five thousand Buddhist temples.

The march of Mars towards Aquarius heralded great shake-ups, amidst turmoil in West Asia in February 2011.With its entry into Aquarius on February 16, the impact of Saturn-Jupiter opposing each other in Virgo-Pisces intensified. Mars aspected transiting Saturn from Aquarius with its eighth aspect and then proceeded to join Jupiter in Pisces in the last week of March 2011. The tremors of the collision of these three strong planets, six months ago, can still be felt.
In the beginning of the year 2011, came a violent democratic upsurge in the most unlikely area of the globe. But astrologers with eyes on the Jupiter-Saturn opposition and Mars approaching were indeed expecting the unexpected.
Sectarian turmoil and the revolt against dictators with a long and selfish patronage of the western powers perhaps needed the joint effort of Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Sun, Rahu and Ketu. Projection of a sovereign debt crisis in Europe would have been perhaps scoffed off as a creation of a pessimistic mind a decade ago, but now is a painful reality.

Seminars and Convocation of 30th October, 2011
The function received a divine start with lighting of lamp by Swami Nikhilanandji of the Chinmaya Mission, Shri K.N. Rao and Col A.K. Gour. The Vandna by Ms. Hansa further purified the environment. The first session was ably conducted by Mr. Satish Kumar Sharma, the monitor of the Junior research group. The 39 speakers, who spoke, demonstrated conviction and enthusiasm. The presentations on dasha of Lagna lord, 10th lord and exalted planets showed the insight and the depth reached in analysis. Clearly a passionate involvement of the guide Shri K.N. Rao could be seen.
The2nd session on transit of Saturn with respect to Atmakaraka and Karamkamsha was very educative. It had a major research of Shri K.N. Rao. Ms.Pammi Barthwal, a senior researcher, who has been working on the concept, religiously for a long time and had brought out a brilliant article with 25 case studies in the September-October,2011 issue of IOA Journal of Astrology on the subject, made an excellent presentation.
The presentation by two veteran researchers, Ms. Anita Mathur and Ms. Kanta Gupta in the 3rd session was an eye opener. They presented with ease and maturity the dreaded "Transit of Saturn, Mars, Rahu and fatality". Shri Rao concluded the Seminar session by explaining the importance of authentic horoscopes in research.
The convocation began with the lighting of lamp by Shri K.N.Rao, Prof N.N. Pillai, Mr. Harish Gupta, an eminent Journalist who was the chief guest and Mr. E.S. Isaac, controller of examination. The vandna of Mrs. Akhila Kumar has charged the scholastic atmosphere.
Speaking on the occasion I said this is a significant day for astrological research. This sort of research would make the day a defining one for the science of astrology. Lauding the role of Shri Rao, I said 25 years back in 1987 he single handedly started the institution and today after 25 years he again single-handedly guided the three path-breaking seminars.
Unquestionably the identity that we enjoy of being a member of the largest and the best institute of its kind in the world is due to Shri Rao. I also said that as the largest school of astrology of the world, we need to assume special responsibilities in terms of standardization in many areas. Important being authentication of horoscopes. We successfully discharged the responsibility of defending astrology in 2004 when its teaching in universities was challenged by a few skeptic scientists in the Supreme Court. Shri Rao spoke for half an hour in presence of the Supreme Court bench in the courtroom where I was also present. As a consequence, astrology eventually won the battle.
Shri K.N.Rao in his address said that purpose of the seminar is to remove stage fear and to present research. He said when others Institutes have not more than 200 students in toal, we have 300 scholars in research alone. Mr. Rao stressed on the need for replicable research. He said astrology can acquire scientific acceptability only when we produce replicable researches. He said, this is not possible in western astrology as it is not as developed as Vedic astrology. He said the two veteran researchers; Ms. Anita Mathur and Ms. Kanta Gupta have gone far beyond the available text of Phaldeepika. Our dreams in research are getting fulfilled.
Shri Rao's address was followed by the address of the chief guest, Mr. Harish Gupta, an eminent journalist who writes both in English and Hindi; and is a TV anchor as well. Presently he is editing DNA. He shared his experience with astrology and astrologers. He said he found hypocrisy more in Indians with respect to astrology. He said, he found many bureaucrats referring to astrology privately while debating important issues. A former cabinet secretary is also reputed to have practiced astrology privately. He said he had given the birth details of late Mr. Kumaramangalam to an astrologer friend without revealing his identity. The response was accurate about his grave illness. Mr. Gupta said he has found many predictions coming out correct but he got many incorrect predictions as well from the same astrologers. He said the responsibility of astrologers has become greater after the Supreme Court verdict. Therefore the more institutionalized astrology gets, the better it is for the society. He said a monitoring mechanism should be devised to escape from ponga pandits. He said he found ponga pandits a desperate lot like Journalists who are required to give the news on time. They have to beg, borrow or steal but the news has to come on time. He suggested rating of astrologers and their listing. He said Mr. Rao is a crusader. He suggested the use of astrology for medical diagnosis, to ascertain criminal tendencies remaining in criminals about to released and career and education counseling. He said as an institution we should strive to retain our credibility.
Professor N.N. Pillai paid glowing tributes to Shri Rao. He thanked and congratulated Shri K.N.Rao for bringing the Institute to a glorious destination and to the Silver Jubilee Year. He said it is a rare distinction to have half the faculty as authors. He declared that the silver jubilee year will be a year of celebrations. He said our achievements in Vedic astrology should be brought to the notice of the world. He said Indian wisdom cannot be without astrology. The Tatwa of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan is Bharatiya vidya and astrology is an important part of it. Mr. Ashok Pradhan, Director Delhi Kendra of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan conveyed his greetings over telephone as he could not attend the function due to compelling circumstances. Mr. E.S. Isaac, controller of examination in his address suggested that Alankar and Acharya students should construct the horoscopes manually for a better understanding. He said one starts talking to the planets gradually. If you spend more time with them by writing them beside the chart yourself the communication would be better since later the planets start talking to you.
Sun dasha continues to hit corruption: Can Lok Pal root out corruption? The Jan Lokpal Bill, also referred to as the citizens' ombudsman bill, is a proposed independent anti-corruption law. International Vedic Astrology Program, 2011
The International Vedic Astrology Program in English was introduced last year with participation from six countries. The program has as its main objective imparting knowledge of Vedic astrology as is being taught and researched in the Institute of Astrology, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, and developing related skills in the participant. As the largest school of astrology we have to assume special responsibilities. One of the tasks is to integrate research globally and make it broad based.
The program is designed to share with like-minded astrology enthusiasts across the globe the knowledge we have acquired. We also hope to enhance the bank of knowledge through cross findings and interactive exchanges. The findings reported from the Institute will be made available to the participants by teachers who have decades of experience in teaching astrology. We wish to have our participants as our partners for progress in astrology internationally.
This year’s program will begin on 6th December, 2011. The schedule is now finalized, and is being uploaded on our website at journalofastrology.com. The registration form can be downloaded from our website and emailed or posted to us.

It seems so, as Mars in horoscopes has been found channeling the crucial energy that prompts all actions of consequence –good or bad. It is perhaps the spark in your eyes and the thunder and lightning in the sky. In the Simhasan chakra constructed at the time of oath taking, for evaluation of the prospects of the longevity and performance of a government, the three Nakshatras of Mars occupy the three peaks of the chakra.
Mars is also called Kuja, Bhaum, Bhuputra, Lohitang, kruraksha and kartkae. When nearest to the Earth it is 36 million miles away from us; takes 686 days for covering all the rashis of the zodiac. (Sidereal period - 686.97982 days and Synodic Period 779.936 days as per Lahiri's ephemeris)
Mars and Wars
Mars is the commander-in-chief in the planetary cabinet. It represents courage, chivalry, aggression, celebratory gunfire and the real ones, explosions, fire balls and all sorts of violence and wars, more so when it gets closer to Earth. In the 20th century it was closest on 20-11-1990 and the historic UN Security Council resolution sanctioning use of force against Iraq for its aggression against Kuwait was made on 29-11-1990. According to astrological principles that interpret a planetary war between planets, Mars is always the winner. The planetary war takes place when two planets are less than one degree apart. Phaldeepika Shloka 9: Mars has lean waist. His hair is curly and bright. There is cruelty (fierceness) in his look. He has a cruel nature and is bilious. He is dressed in red clothes and his body has a red hue. He is wrathful but exceedingly generous. He looks youthful and has jurisdiction over marrow in the body.

Such people do not regret the past and future does not worry them. They are blessed. Do not be disappointed even if you are born in the second group. You can reach from misery, grief and worry to bliss by following a disciplined path.
The primary goal of an astrologer should be to help his subject transition from the second to the first group.
The maps with the route highlighted to reach the first group can be found in all religions. It may be known as the path to salvation, path to moksha or the path to renunciation and enlightenment. It is all the same. Every religion suggests shedding of the unwanted in thinking, action and spirit and strongly advocates a halt to sinning.
Vedic beliefs also suggest acquisition of blissful state of being by following any of the methods of tapasya (meditation) and yogic kriyas for achieving a mental state where events of the past and present do not disturb you and you face the future as it comes. People who have experienced this state are called Mahatmas, Gyanis and Gurus in the Indian context.
Those who live in the past have to suffer. Perhaps this is their destiny. Living in the past, for this debate would mean reflecting on issues which have no bearing on the present or future. Thinking of what is over and gone brings mostly regret and unhappiness. Tension for future comes from the uncertainty and the unknown, an intrinsic aspect of life.
Astrology can assess the present state of the subject from his horoscope and point the direction for the forward path.
Astrology can take you from the second group to the first by assessing the way no science can. It shows the path and also makes you understand better the law of karma and the working of destiny. An astrologer should strive to take his subject to the first group where after fruitful consultation he may not require an astrologer at all. The 200million fuel efficient, high- tech, travel comfort made its inaugural flight from Seattle to Tokyo's Narita airport. Japanese make the best for themselves and do not hesitate to acquire the best from abroad if it is worth it.
Kyoto, the ancient most city of Japan and its capital before Tokyo is the center of learning with the oldest university which has many Nobel laureates as its alumni. It has five thousand Buddhist temples.

Global Scenario
The march of Mars towards Aquarius heralded great shake-ups, amidst turmoil in West Asia in February 2011.With its entry into Aquarius on February 16, the impact of Saturn-Jupiter opposing each other in Virgo-Pisces intensified. Mars aspected transiting Saturn from Aquarius with its eighth aspect and then proceeded to join Jupiter in Pisces in the last week of March 2011. The tremors of the collision of these three strong planets, six months ago, can still be felt.
In the beginning of the year 2011, came a violent democratic upsurge in the most unlikely area of the globe. But astrologers with eyes on the Jupiter-Saturn opposition and Mars approaching were indeed expecting the unexpected.

Seminars and Convocation of 30th October, 2011
The function received a divine start with lighting of lamp by Swami Nikhilanandji of the Chinmaya Mission, Shri K.N. Rao and Col A.K. Gour. The Vandna by Ms. Hansa further purified the environment. The first session was ably conducted by Mr. Satish Kumar Sharma, the monitor of the Junior research group. The 39 speakers, who spoke, demonstrated conviction and enthusiasm. The presentations on dasha of Lagna lord, 10th lord and exalted planets showed the insight and the depth reached in analysis. Clearly a passionate involvement of the guide Shri K.N. Rao could be seen.
The2nd session on transit of Saturn with respect to Atmakaraka and Karamkamsha was very educative. It had a major research of Shri K.N. Rao. Ms.Pammi Barthwal, a senior researcher, who has been working on the concept, religiously for a long time and had brought out a brilliant article with 25 case studies in the September-October,2011 issue of IOA Journal of Astrology on the subject, made an excellent presentation.
The presentation by two veteran researchers, Ms. Anita Mathur and Ms. Kanta Gupta in the 3rd session was an eye opener. They presented with ease and maturity the dreaded "Transit of Saturn, Mars, Rahu and fatality". Shri Rao concluded the Seminar session by explaining the importance of authentic horoscopes in research.
The convocation began with the lighting of lamp by Shri K.N.Rao, Prof N.N. Pillai, Mr. Harish Gupta, an eminent Journalist who was the chief guest and Mr. E.S. Isaac, controller of examination. The vandna of Mrs. Akhila Kumar has charged the scholastic atmosphere.
Speaking on the occasion I said this is a significant day for astrological research. This sort of research would make the day a defining one for the science of astrology. Lauding the role of Shri Rao, I said 25 years back in 1987 he single handedly started the institution and today after 25 years he again single-handedly guided the three path-breaking seminars.
Unquestionably the identity that we enjoy of being a member of the largest and the best institute of its kind in the world is due to Shri Rao. I also said that as the largest school of astrology of the world, we need to assume special responsibilities in terms of standardization in many areas. Important being authentication of horoscopes. We successfully discharged the responsibility of defending astrology in 2004 when its teaching in universities was challenged by a few skeptic scientists in the Supreme Court. Shri Rao spoke for half an hour in presence of the Supreme Court bench in the courtroom where I was also present. As a consequence, astrology eventually won the battle.
Shri K.N.Rao in his address said that purpose of the seminar is to remove stage fear and to present research. He said when others Institutes have not more than 200 students in toal, we have 300 scholars in research alone. Mr. Rao stressed on the need for replicable research. He said astrology can acquire scientific acceptability only when we produce replicable researches. He said, this is not possible in western astrology as it is not as developed as Vedic astrology. He said the two veteran researchers; Ms. Anita Mathur and Ms. Kanta Gupta have gone far beyond the available text of Phaldeepika. Our dreams in research are getting fulfilled.
Shri Rao's address was followed by the address of the chief guest, Mr. Harish Gupta, an eminent journalist who writes both in English and Hindi; and is a TV anchor as well. Presently he is editing DNA. He shared his experience with astrology and astrologers. He said he found hypocrisy more in Indians with respect to astrology. He said, he found many bureaucrats referring to astrology privately while debating important issues. A former cabinet secretary is also reputed to have practiced astrology privately. He said he had given the birth details of late Mr. Kumaramangalam to an astrologer friend without revealing his identity. The response was accurate about his grave illness. Mr. Gupta said he has found many predictions coming out correct but he got many incorrect predictions as well from the same astrologers. He said the responsibility of astrologers has become greater after the Supreme Court verdict. Therefore the more institutionalized astrology gets, the better it is for the society. He said a monitoring mechanism should be devised to escape from ponga pandits. He said he found ponga pandits a desperate lot like Journalists who are required to give the news on time. They have to beg, borrow or steal but the news has to come on time. He suggested rating of astrologers and their listing. He said Mr. Rao is a crusader. He suggested the use of astrology for medical diagnosis, to ascertain criminal tendencies remaining in criminals about to released and career and education counseling. He said as an institution we should strive to retain our credibility.
Professor N.N. Pillai paid glowing tributes to Shri Rao. He thanked and congratulated Shri K.N.Rao for bringing the Institute to a glorious destination and to the Silver Jubilee Year. He said it is a rare distinction to have half the faculty as authors. He declared that the silver jubilee year will be a year of celebrations. He said our achievements in Vedic astrology should be brought to the notice of the world. He said Indian wisdom cannot be without astrology. The Tatwa of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan is Bharatiya vidya and astrology is an important part of it. Mr. Ashok Pradhan, Director Delhi Kendra of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan conveyed his greetings over telephone as he could not attend the function due to compelling circumstances. Mr. E.S. Isaac, controller of examination in his address suggested that Alankar and Acharya students should construct the horoscopes manually for a better understanding. He said one starts talking to the planets gradually. If you spend more time with them by writing them beside the chart yourself the communication would be better since later the planets start talking to you.
Sun dasha continues to hit corruption: Can Lok Pal root out corruption? The Jan Lokpal Bill, also referred to as the citizens' ombudsman bill, is a proposed independent anti-corruption law. Anti-corruption social activists Anne Hazare and his team proposed it as a more effective improvement to the original Lokpal bill, In view of corruption occupying the top focus area of voters, the political class wish to still better it.
In this context, the chaitra shukla pratipada chart of 3rd April, 2011, 20:02 hour, New Delhi as also the surya vidhi charts of entry of Sun into Aries and Cancer in 2011 and the paksh chart of August 2011 is quite revealing.

International Vedic Astrology Program, 2011
The International Vedic Astrology Program in English was introduced last year with participation from six countries. The program has as its main objective imparting knowledge of Vedic astrology as is being taught and researched in the Institute of Astrology, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, and developing related skills in the participant. As the largest school of astrology we have to assume special responsibilities. One of the tasks is to integrate research globally and make it broad based.
The program is designed to share with like-minded astrology enthusiasts across the globe the knowledge we have acquired. We also hope to enhance the bank of knowledge through cross findings and interactive exchanges. The findings reported from the Institute will be made available to the participants by teachers who have decades of experience in teaching astrology. We wish to have our participants as our partners for progress in astrology internationally.
This year’s program will begin on 6th December, 2011. The schedule is now finalized, and is being uploaded on our website at journalofastrology.com. The registration form can be downloaded from our website and emailed or posted to us.

3rd House Vedic Astrology,
The third house governs the mental inclination of the person and their ability to memorize. It also affects the inherent propensities of the intellect and mind. The house indicates the inclination to study while the ninth house stands for higher education, research, philosophical tendencies and wisdom. The third house stands for valor, heroism, prowess, courage and firmness. If the lord of the 10th or 6th houses have connection with the 3rd house, the native is likely to be a soldier or army officer. The third house stands for the Bhratrusthana which implies the considerations of the native for their younger brother or sister.
With the sahayasthana being in the third house, the house should be assessed in order to understand if the native will be assisted with others or if they are working hard individually. The third house involves short travels. If it is well connected, the third house may make the native undertake short inland journeys such as traveling by bus, cars, tram, land transport, railway, crossing rivers and lakes and engaging in brief air travel. If the lord of the third house is a natural benefic posited in the second house in a lady’s chart, the native may have jewelry on her ear, hands and neck.
If the ketu or rahu are conjoined with Mars or the lord of the sixth house, or if they are placed in the third house along with Mars, the native may have ailments in their ears. Generally, the malefic of any house affects the parts of the body that are ruled by that particular house. If the malefic occupies the third house, the native may have a mole. With the third house indicating courage, the person needs to ascertain whether one will be bold or not. The presence of Saturn in the third house makes one a bit cautious to a certain extent and this person is likely to wait and watch. The native is not likely to be brash or do anything boldly. If the native has Mars in the third house, he will be very brave. KINDS OF MANTRAS
Mantras belong to different categories,among them the most important are the following
1. Vedokta Mantras,
2. Pauranik mantras,
3. Aagama mantras,
4. Savar mantras,
5. Living personified mantras or
Divya Vigrah mantras.
1.Vedokta Mantras:
The mantras that we come across in the Vedas have been seen or experienced by the Vedic Seers. Vedic mantras contain eternal truths and these truths have existed from eternal time. Therefore, they can only be seen or experienced by Sages who undertake tapasya or penance and make themselves fit instruments for the perception of truth. Thus, they are not composers of mantras but are called Drashtas. These mantras have been passed on from generation to generation through a system or oral tradition. These Vedokta mantras, belong also to what are called shrutis or what have been heard by the Sages. They contain all the principles and truths that are necessary for the maintenance of this universe and the progress of humanity.
2. Pauranik mantras:
As time passed these Vedokta mantras became obscure and men were not able to understand them fully. Only a few people who had the capacity for sustained study could understand and utilize these mantras. Therefore, Vyas maharshi out of compassion for humanity rendered these Vedic mantras in simple language and produced Eighteen Puranas.The purpose of these puranas was to enable the common men and women to easily understand spiritual truth contained in the Vedas. So, the puranas give to the common man and the same wisdom found in the Vedas in a simple and easy to understand manner.
3. Aagama mantras:
Vedokta mantras and Pauranik mantras impose upon the people certain special qualifications, disciplines and other principles and rituals. Even these were found to be difficult of observance by the people. Further, with the passage of time these also lost their meaning and significance to humanity which became more and more materialistic. The people lost their capacity for penance and hard discipline. Under these circumstances many spiritual masters, realizing the weaknesses of people, tried to simplify the mantras so that they could be more easily utilized. Thus we have the Agama in which are found the mantras of Pragat Upasana of Ista Devata or real Braminised Sadguru worshipping the Almighty God or Supramental Adya Shakti in the personal divinised form instead of imaginary external worship and the mere japa without understanding the real meaning. These mantras are the Agama manstra.
4. Savar manstras
Some Siddhas who attained the highest spiritual status through Sadhana and the worship of a chosen Ista Devata or Goddess acquire such power that by their mere utterance of one word or sentence, our desire or our work gets fulfilled. Such words or sentences are known as Savar mantras. These mantras have to be employed after the blessing and guidance from the mantras siddha Gurus.
5. Divya Vigrah mantras:
The acid test of any mantras lied in its authenticity and in its effectiveness in this life and in this world for generating and attaining immense power, shakti, especially, siddhi and realization of Eternal Truth. Hence, Mantras Siddhi is the key point in the real Tantric system and that is why Mantra which is capable of enabling the Sadhak to Self-realisation and perfection in this life is called “The Living Mantra.”

Therefore, they can only be seen or experienced by Sages who undertake tapasya or penance and make themselves fit instruments for the perception of truth. Thus, they are not composers of mantras but are called Drashtas. These mantras have been passed on from generation to generation through a system or oral tradition. These Vedokta mantras, belong also to what are called shrutis or what have been heard by the Sages. They contain all the principles and truths that are necessary for the maintenance of this universe and the progress of humanity.
2. Pauranik mantras:
As time passed these Vedokta mantras became obscure and men were not able to understand them fully. Only a few people who had the capacity for sustained study could understand and utilize these mantras. Therefore, Vyas maharshi out of compassion for humanity rendered these Vedic mantras in simple language and produced Eighteen Puranas.The purpose of these puranas was to enable the common men and women to easily understand spiritual truth contained in the Vedas. So, the puranas give to the common man and the same wisdom found in the Vedas in a simple and easy to understand manner.
3. Aagama mantras:
Vedokta mantras and Pauranik mantras impose upon the people certain special qualifications, disciplines and other principles and rituals. Even these were found to be difficult of observance by the people. Further, with the passage of time these also lost their meaning and significance to humanity which became more and more materialistic. The people lost their capacity for penance and hard discipline. Under these circumstances many spiritual masters, realizing the weaknesses of people, tried to simplify the mantras so that they could be more easily utilized. Thus we have the Agama in which are found the mantras of Pragat Upasana of Ista Devata or real Braminised Sadguru worshipping the Almighty God or Supramental Adya Shakti in the personal divinised form instead of imaginary external worship and the mere japa without understanding the real meaning. These mantras are the Agama manstra.
4. Savar manstras
Some Siddhas who attained the highest spiritual status through Sadhana and the worship of a chosen Ista Devata or Goddess acquire such power that by their mere utterance of one word or sentence, our desire or our work gets fulfilled. Such words or sentences are known as Savar mantras. These mantras have to be employed after the blessing and guidance from the mantras siddha Gurus.
5. Divya Vigrah mantras:
The acid test of any mantras lied in its authenticity and in its effectiveness in this life and in this world for generating and attaining immense power, shakti, especially, siddhi and realization of Eternal Truth. Hence, Mantras Siddhi is the key point in the real Tantric system and that is why Mantra which is capable of enabling the Sadhak to Self-realisation and perfection in this life is called “The Living Mantra.”
"In today’s world where even a small child does not easily put faith in anything without verification naturally, those who want to achieve supernatural powers and Siddhis, liberation and self-realisation. Only those Mantras are called “The Living Mantras” or the Creative Dynamic Mantras.

One of the main features of a genuine Shankha is the rib/ridge like horizontal raised lines, at the inside opening. These ridges in the conch cavity, called Pilae, go through the inside of the Shankha center, called columella, right to the top. People can create fake ridges on the outside of the opening by carefully filing away a part of it and leaving out 3 or 4 faint raised lines to make it look like a real Dakshinavarti, but one thing no one can fake is this inside spiraling of the ridges to the top. This is shown clearly in the X-Ray.
But there are people now who are producing fake Dakshinavartis with fake lines.

First they were selling the Lightning Whelk as the rare Dakshinavarti Shankha. Warnings posted with pictures in many websites, including this site, made people aware of this. Then they started faking three or four lines at the inside opening of the Lightning Whelk to make it look more authentic. X-Ray can expose this. The Dakshinavarti fakers are getting smarter but the X-Ray photographs give a very good picture of how they are faked. See how the fakes can be caught as shown in the two pictures bellow. अंक शास्त्र के अनुसार मूलांक अर्थात 1 से लेकर 9 तक के अंक नवग्रहों के प्रतीक हैं। इसी प्रकार दर्शन शास्त्र ने भी अंकों के संदर्भ में व्याख्या की है। कहते हैं कि शिकागो के विश्व धर्म सम्मेलन में स्वामी विवेकानंद से शून्य पर बोलने को कहा गया था। शून्य (0) प्रतीक है निर्गुण निराकार ब्रrा का और 1 अंक उस ईश्वर का जो दिखाई तो त्रिदेवों के रूप में देता है लेकिन वास्तव में वह एक ही है। नाम-रूप का भेद कार्य-भेद से है, 8 अंक में पूरी प्रकृति समाहित हैं। यथा-भूमिरापोनलोवायु: रवं मनोबुद्धि रेव च। अहंकार इतीयं से भिन्नाप्रकृतिरष्टधा।। अर्थात पृथ्वी, जल, तेज, वायु, आकाश, मन, बुद्धि और अहंकार यह मेरी 8 प्रकार की प्रकृति है। 108 की संख्या के पीछे यह रहस्य है कि इसके द्वारा जीव सांसारिक वस्तुओं की प्राçप्त, ईश्वर के दर्शन और ब्र्रrा तत्व की अनुभूति-जो भी चाहे, कर सकता है। हमारी सांसों की संख्या के आधार पर 108 दानों की माला स्वीकृत की गई है। 24 घंटों में एक व्यक्ति 21600 बार सांस लेता है। यदि 12 घंटे दिनचर्या में निकल जाते हैं तो शेष 12 घंटे देव-आराधाना में लिए बचते हैं। अर्थात 10800 सांसों का उपयोग अपने इष्टदेव के स्मरण के लिए करना चाहिए। लेकिन इतना समय देना हर किसी के लिए संभव नहीं होता। इसलिए इस संख्या में से अंतिम दो शून्य हटाकर शेष 108 सांस में ही प्रभु स्मरण की मान्यता प्रदान की गई है। एक अन्य मान्यता के अनुसार,एक वर्ष में सूर्य 216000 (दो लाख सोलह हजार) कलाएं बदलता है। सूर्य हर छह महीने में उत्तरायण और दक्षिणायण रहता है। इस प्रकार छह महीने में सूर्य की कुल कलाएं 108000 (एक लाख आठ हजार) होती हैं। अंतिम तीन शून्य हटाने पर 108 संख्या मिलती है, इसलिए माला जप में 108 दाने सूर्य की एक-एक कलाओं के प्रतीक हैं। तीसरी मान्यता के अनुसार,ज्योतिष शास्त्र इन्हें 12 राशियों और 9 ग्रहों से जोडता है। 12 राशियों और 9 ग्रहों का गुणनफल 108 आता है अर्थात 108 अंक संपूर्ण जगत की गति का प्रतिनिधित्व करता है। चौथी मान्यता भारतीय ऋषियों द्वारा 27 नक्षत्रों की खोज पर आधारित है। प्रत्येक नक्षत्र में चार चरण होते हैं, अत: इनके गुणनफल की संख्या 108 आती है जो परम पवित्र मानी जाती है। संतों तथा महान पुरूषों के नाम के पूर्व 108 अंक का प्रयोग यह भी संकेत देता है कि वे प्रकृति, ईश्वर एवं ब्रrा के संबंध में परोक्ष और अपरोक्ष ज्ञान वाले हैं। लेकिन अब इसका प्रयोग रूढ हो जाने से सम्मान के अर्थ में किया जा रहा है।
