What is L.M.T. Does every place in India have a different L.M.T. ? Please explain in simple words.....Krishna Kumar Bagri ji Explanation : By Umang Taneja ji & Vatsalya Saxena ji IST Long.= 82 deg. 30 min. near Allahabad.. DELHI = 77 deg. 13 min. difference = 5 deg. 17 min. Now 5 deg. 17 min. multiply by 4 == 5 x 4 = 20 min. 17 x 4= 68 ...hence differnece is 21 min. 8 sec. the Local Time Meridian is country specific..so, for each country, you need to consider the local meridian. This is basic school level geography Ok..let me try to write simplistically...IST is calculated at 82-30..which means a place before 82-30 (like bombay 72-50) will have a time closer to GMT..so..the local time for bombay will be ((82-30 minus 72-50)x 4 = 38 minutes 40 sec before the IST. In still simpler terms, when the IST at Bombay is 12 noon..the LMT will be 11:21:20. GMT = 0 degree hai... 82.30 East (IST) - 0 = 82deg. 30 min. multiply by 4 = 5 hours 30 minutes. 82-30 is derived by taking the mid point of geographical expanse of Indian territory in british India..it stretches from 67 Deg E (in Kutch) to 97 deg East (In Arunachal). The approximate mid point is 82-30. .Sunrise/ sunset depends alongwith the longitude, on AD (Ascensional Difference)..and AD is a function of Geographical Latitude.. it's the AD which is responsible for intercepted signs as you go higher on globe..AD is the difference between the Oblique Ascension and the right ascension.. AD= Sin Inv [ tan BPL x tan MOE] where BPL = Birth Place Latitude and MOE = Mean Obliquity of the Ecliptic which is 23-26-16 right now..the tilt of the earth on it's axis d to visualise this in order to actually understand this concept..The distance , in deg, along the ecliptic gives the Oblique ascension, and the difference between RA and OV, calculated using spherical trigonometry, is the AD..
